2008 Presidential Election

This post is for one of the blogs for our final, and I do not have a blog about the 2008 Presidential Election so here it is, my review over the biggest election ever.

The 2008 Presidential Election was held on November the 4th; both of the candidates were current senators a first time in history, Democratic candidate Barack Obama from Illinois and the Republican candidate John McCain from Arizona. This election had many firsts, Obama being the first African-American to be elected president. If John McCain was elected he would have been the oldest first term president and his vice president would have been the first ever female vice president.

There were many problems that stirred around when people found out who their leading candidates were. Both of the candidates were born not on the United States “Mainland”, with Obama being born here in Honolulu making him the first president born in Hawaii, and John McCain being born at a United States naval base in Coco Solo, a Panama Canal Zone. It was questioned whether Obama was able to run for presidency since being born in Hawaii, but he was born in 1961; just two years after Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959.

In this election the media played a major role towards the presidential election. Internet sites such as Myspace, facebook, and YouTube were used to reach out towards the internet users, along with television advertisements. Obama gained the respect he needed from majority of younger voters.

At the end of the election the results poured in with Obama claiming 52.9% of the votes, a projected 365 electoral votes and McCain with 45.7% of the votes, with a projected 173 electoral votes.

Felony charges mount for man, 18

This is an old article that was posted on November 7, 2008 by The Honolulu Advertiser but has been on my mind. There was a 18 year old-man who was arrested for two shootings that were earlier this year which left the victims permanently paralyzed, also in July the man also assaulted, which left the victim's face permanently disfigured where he used a broken beer bottle.
The 18 year old Nicholas Nichols was indicted for more than one felony charges which included an attempted murder from a home invasion in Aliamanu.  This event was on the news where a group of hooded men barged into the home and shot 19 year old Timothy Lapitan, which caused him to be paralyzed from the waist down.  The other shooting occurred when Nichols followed a rival gang member of the "Bracatas" in a car and the passenger of Nichols vehicle shot the other car hitting 16 year old Roger Curioso which paralyzed him from the chest down.  The other case in which Nichols is involved in is an assault case, where victim 19 year old Rudy Tabios was struck by a broken beer bottle.  According to the HPD Nichols and his friends were hanging out drinking beer at a park and kicked Tabios' friend then Tabios grabbed a bat to help his friend out.  Nichols threw the broken beer bottle and hit him in the face where Nichols grabbed the bat and started beating Tabios with it.  Apparently Tabios and Nichols were involved with same girlfriend with on and off relationships.
What is our world coming to?  This is just crazy a bunch of crazy kids running the streets with guns playing cowboys and indians...well not really but what would pursue a person to barge into a house and shoot someone.  You hear on the news of these type of incidents occurring in areas such as Los Angeles, not so much in Hawaii, some Paradise right?  I am only 19 and this guy is younger than me, and he was out there doing all of these type of things.  According to the article from The Honolulu Advertiser Nichols is at O'ahu Community Correctional Center who is unable to post his $500,000 bail.

No.1 Ranked College Linebacker Recruit

I've been listing about this kid all year long and i think that he is going to be an awesome college football player. It is good to hear all of these positive things about kids from hawaii, and make us proud.
Manti Te’o an outside linebacker from Punahou helped the Buffanblu win their first football state title defeating defending state champions the Leilehua Mules 38-7. Te’o is the nation’s No.1 ranked college linebacker, with recruits from USC, Notre Dame, UCLA, Stanford and Brigham Young University. Receiving 21 merit badges Te’o reached the rank of Eagle Scout, a position that only a few boy scouts from each troop achieves.
Te’o plans to serve a two-year church mission in 15 months where, football will have to be on hold.

ESCAPE 2 AFRICA

"Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa"
By: Chris Avery

Well I have to be honest and admit that I did not see the first Madagascar movie…tsk tsk tsk shame on me right, doing a movie review on a sequel without seeing the first movie. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa was a pretty darn good movie, for those CG (Computer Graphic) animation admirers you guys would be pretty impressed on the graphics. My girlfriend gave me a 5-minute run down on what the first one was about; so from her little summary I was able to somewhat understand what was going on. Escape 2 Africa explains how Alex (the lion) got to New York, and apparently it picks up where the previous movie left off. The animals are trying to get back to New York on a plane, which would be flown by penguins, which are hilarious in the movie. The plane crashes and the four zoo pals encounter other animals of their own kind, Alex (the lion) finally is reintroduced to his parents and all seems well. Another lion is not happy; Makunga (Alex Baldwin) wants to find a way to replace the tribe leader Zuba (Bernie Mac) Alex’s father. The movie is great for the kids and good enough to keep the older audiences happy. I am not going to spoil the rest of the movie so go and see it, to get a better understanding watch the first movie.

I still haven’t come around to do so…

Bird is the WORD?

I saw this episode on Family Guy and it Cracked me the Hell up...this song is pretty kick ass i dont know why though...I think it was because i had a pretty rough week, and when i saw it it kind of cheered me up. I think that it is so cool that a simple cartoon can cheer somebody up. 19 years old and still watching cartoons...

This other video shows Palin and McCains Button on Stewies Jacket.....I guess this is another way you can convince people to vote. ...using cartoons. Family guy is pretty popular so i guess that the producers of Family Guy are Republicans..

OBAMA assassination atempt

Been really lacking doing some of these blogs but, this one caught my eye.  I was just surfing on the internet with my phone at work and saw this.  If Federal Agents didn't do their Job then presidential candidate Barack Obama would be dead along with about a hundred or so.  What kind of world are we living in?!?  I mean you might hate some people but "hate" is a really strong word, but taking it to a point to killing them because of their color is just too far.  I personally seen a white supremacist when i was younger, and i was freaked out.  Living in Hawaii totally separated from the mainland i forgot the feeling of how it was to see a white supremacist, until now.  I guess it's because of Obama's Hawaii ties is the reason.
If Obama was assassinated, what would happen? Does Biden take over, or does McCain win my default? what would happen with the presidential elections?  This stuff is freakin ridiculous how people can be....F***** weirdos

Honolulu International Film Festival

The honolulu international film festival is going on for a couple more days, i suggest that everyone should check it out. I went last night with the cast and crew of two of the short films that was shown. One of the short films that oceanic cable help produce was The First Hawaiian Snowball fight, and the Legend of Chang Apana, which fortunatelyi got to be a small part of which was really cool. The Legend of Chang apana is about a real guy, a officer of the HPD. It took place in hawaii's Chinatown in the 1920's who refused to carry a gun but a horse whip instead, he was feared in Chinatown and really made a statement.
Some of the other movies were really good, but others i personally think that it needed more work. Since i do a little video editing, here and there i noticed some things that should have been fixed. Other than that the film festival was really cool, it has over 150 films from 36 different countries. i think that it goes on for a couple more days if so you guys should check it out

Interview

The Person that I interviewed was Chris Ripley, he is 24 years old and from the east coast. Hes a pretty interesting guy if you get to know him, its weird because we're from two different parts of the United States and we're sort of a like.

Chris is a Liberal, and a Conspiracy Theorist <-- that is pretty cool.
He told me about a book called "BlowBack" and it is supposed to be how the author predicted 9-11, and how the U.S. knew what was coming to them.

He said he was going to vote for OBAMA, because he's a smart guy, I asked him what about the No Military Experience that obama has, and he responded that Usually Smart men would surround themselves with SMARTER men, so basically if Obama does not know then he could find out with the smarter men.

He went to school for 2 years then traveled for 2 years. He went to Rome, and Costa Rica to surf. He got into video because he said that he loves surf videos, and how it makes you feel when you watch it so it was kind of his dream to make videos like that. His first video making experience came from when he was in Costa Rica with friends and tried to document the trip. They didn't have the right equiptment and the camera broke at the beginging of the trip.

Chris heard of HPU from a Surf website's advertisement when he was browsing around, and that night He applied to HPU. Coming to hawaii he could finish up school, surf, and make Videos. pretty sweet set up.

Where did the time go?

At the begining of the semester my girlfriend and I were talking about how we are going to get A's this semester, well to start off i dont think that its going to happen. Can anyone help me out with time management? What works for you guys on your busy schedules, how do you guys have time to go to school full time, work, socialize with friends, eat, do homework and getting the right amount of sleep? I've always had a hard time doing all of these things.
In High School i had senioritis since the 2nd week of freshman year, or it might be just laziness, PROCRASTINATION is another one of my accomplishments. I need to start fresh, anyone with any ideas, let me know.

Celebrities View On Politics

Kid Rock's view on Politics "I truly believe that people like myself, who are in a position of entertainers in the limelight, should keep their mouth shut on politics. Because at the end of the day, I'm good at writing songs and singing. What I'm not educated in is the field of political science. And so for me to be sharing my views and influencing people of who I think they should be voting for...I think would be very irresponsible on my part. I think celebrity endorsements hurt politicians. Because as soon as somebody comes out for a politician, especially in Hollywood, when they all go, "I'm voting for this guy!" -- I go, "That's not who I'm voting for!" ... As soon as Oprah Winfrey pops up and goes "Ha-la-la-la-la," I'm like, "I love Barack Obama. I hate Oprah Winfrey."

I agree with Kid Rock, even though I do not know much about politics this is my opinion. If people are going to vote for somebody, they should vote for the person they think is right for the job, not because it's the "IN THING" to vote for this person because everyone else is or because a celebrity is voting for that someone, the media plays a huge role on politics and on everything else. I believe that when Oprah said that she's supporting Obama there were so much women who watch OPRAH are going to vote for obama because of her, if she wasn't in the picture it would be a different story. I hung out with my friends the other day, and for some reason the topic of politics came out, which is wierd because we don't talk about politics at all, for some reason a good friend of mine said that he was going to vote for Obama because of his connection to Hawaii , and went to school here. Thats his choice right, again going to vote for someone because they want to, but that reason is weak, what is he going to do for us in the future, vote for someone with strong logical reasoning, and who can better our country.

thats my opinion

Chris Averys Intro

My name is Chris Avery and I am from Mililani.  I hope that I am doing this blog thing right because i never done one before.  Well I guess that i can say that I am 19 years old just graduated from Mililani High School in 2007 this is my second year at HPU.  The reason why I chose HPU was because I heard of their Video program, and I never got accepted to UH.
I currently have 3 different jobs right now; I work at a doctors office as a office clerk on Mondays and Fridays from 9-6, I go to school full time on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30- 5:05, Wednesdays I go to Oceanic Time Warner Cable as an Intern working with different types of projects, I currently Edit the Lineups on Oc16 and I cut the Highlights from the UH Warrior games for the  UH Pregame show with Robert Kekaula.
I love watching Movies especially movies with crazy effects, I make movies for fun, and I like learning anything that deals with video production, thats why im Grateful to be at Oceanic Cable because the whole production Department teaches me different things.
Writing for me over the years has become very difficult,  I don't like my own writing,  I like to tell people a story visually but, that is why I am in a writing class so i guess that i can learn.  Politics to me was always boring, and I don't really follow it, even though I should, But I do have different opinions on things.  This year is going to force me to follow politics because multiple classes of mine requires me to since it is the election year.
